The music and sports crossover series, executive produced by Elton John, introduces Olympians to musical artists both at the top of their game, and examines the similarities of their paths to greatness. Rocket Sports is utterly thrilled to announce the launch of its first television series in conjunction with The Olympic Channel, after the most anticipated Olympic & Paralympic Games in history.
Two of culture’s greatest pillars collide in the new Olympic Channel original series from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and music legend Elton John, titled From the Top: Olympians and Rockstars.
The crossover series launched on 16th August 2021 and is available now, taking a deep dive into the link between music and sport by bringing together an Olympian with a musical artist, both among the best in their fields.
The two spent time together sharing each other’s passions, motivations, and attributes that have guided them towards their respective successes.
Overall the series follows five unique pairings and asks them to uncover what it means to achieve greatness and just how similar their paths to the top might be.
Speaking about the concept, Executive Producer Elton John shared:
“There has long been an inextricable connection between music and sport, two worlds that often come together for cultural moments around the world.”
“I am thrilled to work with Olympics to continue to inspire fans around the world and showcase the next generation of incredible talent, from the podium to the stage.”
Episode one: dropping in with Sky Brown and Yungblud
The series, which premiered on August 16, on Olympics.com and its apps for mobile and connected TV devices, kicks off with Britain’s youngest-ever summer Olympian, and youngest Olympic medallist, the skateboarding superstar Sky Brown, and British singer-songwriter Yungblud, famed for his genre-defying music.
The episode begins with the two convening in Venice Beach, California, where Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist Sky schools Yungblud in skateboarding basics.
Yungblud then returns the favour by performing for Sky, in what is the first ever private rock concert she has ever attended.
Using a combination of interview, archival footage, and conversation, the episode guides the audience into seeing the similarities between the teen sporting phenom and the master musician.
Along the way the two share and compare their current career experiences, bonding over what it means to be an inspiration for an entire generation.
“It was so much fun spending the day with Yungblud, I had the chance to teach him some skateboarding basics and then I got to see him perform! It was SO cool!” – Sky Brown
